The Piva Nature Park is located in the extreme northwest of Montenegro, on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is the first park that was declared as the nature park in Montenegro and is particularly significant because it connects the Sutjeska National Park (BiH) and the National Park Durmitor. The mountainous landscape dominates, where, in addition to mountains, pastures, and forests predominate, as well as the deeply cut canyons of Tara, Piva, Sušice, as well as mountain lakes: Sušičko, Malo and Veliko Stabanjsko, Trnovačko, and Pivsko. In addition to Piva mountain, the park includes three other mountains: Bioč (2,397 meters), Maglić (2,386 meters), and Volujak (2,336 meters). In the lakes within the park, we can find representatives of characteristic endemic species: newts and alpine salamanders. Among mammals, bears, wild boars, deer, and foxes are present. The park is home to more than 1,500 species of plants, many of which are rare and endangered, as well as more than 2,000 species of fungi. The park also contains protected cultural and historical monuments, the most famous of which are the Piva Monastery and the Greek Cemetery in Šćepan Polje, which is on the list of 28 medieval necropolises with stećak tombstones that were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016.
