Prokletije National Park

Description

Prokletije National Park was declared a park in 2009. It is located in the border area of Montenegro, Albania, and Kosovo and between the Podgorica-Skadar valley in the southwest and Metohija in the northeast. The main characteristics of Prokletije are the relief and the abundance of water. There are two nature reserves on the territory of the park, Hridsko Lake and Volusnica. The fauna of Prokletije is very diverse, and the most common are insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. 161 bird species have been recorded in the Prokletije area. The most important bird species are: gray heron, spoon heron, woodcock, bearded vulture, griffon vulture, snake eagle, hawk, sparrow hawk, swallow falcon, gray falcon, hazel, crossbill, etc. Prokletije National Park abounds in a variety of attractive content: lookouts, untouched mountain landscapes, snowy peaks, mountain lakes, caves, cave drawings, a deep canyon with a natural bridge, a natural blueberry field, traditional rural houses. Forests are one of the most important natural resources.
